A Time Capsule…

Warren Stutzman stored a lucky 2 cent penny in the Woodbury Heritage House in approximately 1925. Warren is the father of our Board Director, Patty Stutzman-Paulus.

All in the family…

The Heritage House was located on the Stutzman family farm at Marsh Creek by Woodbury & housed farmhands over many years. The 160 acres of land where the Heritage House stands was bought in 1903 from Henry Raths, Patty’s great-grandparents, Jacob and Lizzie Stutzman. Then eventually it belonged to Herbert and Laura Stutzman, her grandparents.

The Lucky Penny….

The lucky 2 cent penny hid in a carved-out spot on the underside of the staircase going upstairs in the Heritage House in the 1920’s. The penny has a date of 1870 on it and, of course, 1870 is the date of the Heritage House!

Patty’s dad, Warren, retrieved it eventually and now Patty’s son, Andrew Paulus, who lives in New York wears it proudly on a chain around his neck! It was kept in this secret place that only Patty knew about – a special secret place only shared with her by her father, Warren, who stored it there many years ago.

The hiding spot…

When you visit the Heritage House, we will show you this hidden spot!

Andrew values this piece of history of his parents, grandparents & great grandparents.
