Woodbury Heritage Society Announces Historic Landmark Registry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 03/01/23

Woodbury, MN: Today, Woodbury Heritage Society (WHS), announced the launching of “Woodbury Registry of Historic Landmarks”. The society’s president, Wayne Schilling said “this long overdue registry will provide a catalog of landmarks that should be preserved and recognized for their historical significance”. He went on to say, “Their importance can be related to Woodbury’s early history, American history, architecture, art, archeology, engineering, and culture.”

To establish this registry, the WHS planned and will execute the following strategies:

  • Create a Woodbury Registry of Historic Landmarks committee that includes society board members, city representative, realtor and/or developer and a facilitator.
  • Offer application forms for landmark owners to apply for placement on the registry.
  • Create an easily accessible catalog of the landmarks at the society’s office.
  • Provide plaques for historic landmarks so designated.

Schilling further stated that: “the registry will give recognition of a property’s significance in Woodbury’s history, architecture, engineering, or archaeology”.  Nationwide, studies consistently illustrate that historic overlays benefit owners through higher property values and house sales. Our first phase is to secure appropriate signage on the historic Military Road. This is being carried out in partnership with the Washington County Department of Public Works. Interested property owner can obtain information on our website:

The Woodbury Heritage Society is a non-profit organization whose mission is to: preserve and document Woodbury’s history and to help residents of our community learn about Woodbury’s early years.
